Assistant boss Brown Ferguson expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance: 'We’re delighted to get the victory,' he said. 'I thought the team were excellent in the first half and got ourselves into a comfortable position.' He acknowledged that the second-half dip was concerning, particularly as Ayr United had already qualified for the knockout stage.
The last 16 draw has set up an Ayrshire derby between Gary Naysmith's men and Kilmarnock. Despite this exciting prospect, Ferguson emphasized that the focus remains on the Scottish Championship: 'To come through this League Cup campaign with four wins, and looking good in each game, it’s been an excellent start for us,' he stated.
Ayr United will kick off their Scottish Championship season at home against Arbroath on August 1 (3pm KO), a match Ferguson believes is crucial: 'We know how difficult a game it will be but we’ve got to be going into that game with confidence and look for three points.'
