Ayr United's wait for a league win continues after a 3-1 home defeat by Inverness Caledonian Thistle. The result at Somerset Park on Saturday leaves the Honest Men eighth in the Scottish Championship with five points from six games.

Owen Stirton scored for Ayr United in the 27th minute, pulling a goal back after Inverness had taken a two-goal lead. The visitors struck early, with Lewis Longstaff scoring in the fourth minute and Ryan Duncan adding a second in the 19th. Aiden Mackinnon sealed the win for Inverness in the 72nd minute.

The defeat extends a difficult run for Ayr United, who have now lost four of their last five matches. Their only point in that sequence came from a 1-1 draw with Morton.

This was a match Ayr had targeted to end their winless streak, having last taken three points on the opening day of the season. Inverness, promoted from League One last term, secured their first league victory of the campaign with the performance.

The club's next league fixture is away to Queen's Park on January 2. Queen's Park currently sit one place below Ayr in ninth. The full schedule is available on our fixtures page.

Ayr United's home match against Partick Thistle, originally set for October 17, has been moved for television coverage. That game will now be played on Friday, October 16 with a 7.30pm kick-off and will be shown live on BBC Scotland.
