Ayr Utd Starlet Kenzie Mitchell Stays Focused on Football
Ayr Utd's Kenzie Mitchell has been making a big impact through United's pre-season, but insists his feet are staying firmly on the ground. The 18-year-old winger has been a success story of pre-season so far, but admits he's focused on the right approach as he bids to make it big.
What's driving Mitchell's determination?
The Ayr youngster picked up yesterday's Man of the Match bubbly, but admitted it would be going straight to his mum. Mitchell has earned the praise of new boss Gary Naysmith for his early impact during friendlies and the Premier Sports Cup campaign. And the youngster has hailed the importance of last year's loan spell at Talbot under Tucker Sloan for helping to toughen him up.
Why consistency is key for Mitchell
Mitchell has learned a lot from his loan spell at Talbot, particularly on the physical side of the game. "It really helped me going out on loan to Talbot because I learned a lot there, particularly on the physical side of the game," he said. "You don't really get that with Academy football, where the focus is far more technical."
What's next for Mitchell?
The youngster has been working hard to improve his consistency, and it's paying off. "I know I have to keep working hard if I want to make progress," he said. "The thing that let me down last year was a lack of consistency and I knew I had to improve on that."
Ayr Utd currently sit 7th in the Championship with 39 points from 36 games, 38 points behind leaders St Johnstone. The team has struggled in recent form, losing their last 5 games. Goals this season have been a challenge, with 38 scored and 47 conceded, resulting in a -9 goal difference. Last result was a 0-1 loss to St Johnstone on May 1, 2026.
