Ayr United have renamed their North Stand in honour of Alex Smith for the start of the new season. The father of current chairman, David Smith, Alex introduced his son to the club as a young boy, ensuring a lifelong connection that lasts to this day. The North Stand, which was upgraded last year, will be officially named The Alex Smith Stand from the start of the 2026/27 season. The decision was confirmed at the club's board meeting in May, with work set to be completed next week ahead of the new season kicking off in July. Vice-chairman Fraser MacIntyre said: “We are genuinely delighted to name the stand in memory of Alex Smith. It is clear to everyone just how much Somerset Park has changed over the last five years, and that journey began with the passion and commitment of people who care deeply about Ayr United. Alex introduced Davie to the North Terrace as a young boy and helped foster a love for Ayr United that remains as strong as ever today. That story reflects what our club is all about – generations of supporters sharing unforgettable experiences with family and friends. Our season ticket campaign has focused on being part of something special and on the bonds that unite supporters through their shared love of Ayr United. The Alex Smith Stand will now serve as a lasting reminder of those connections and of the people who help make this club what it is.”
