Ayr United have completed the loan signing of 20-year-old winger Thomas Hatton from Celtic for the season. The move comes as the Championship club looks to bolster their squad ahead of the campaign, with Hatton set to debut in their away clash against Raith Rovers. The winger, who has not featured in competitive matches for Celtic, will now seek to make an immediate impact at Somerset Park.

Hatton, a right-footed left-sided player, has been part of Celtic’s pre-season friendlies but has yet to feature in league action. His loan move to Ayr United offers a platform for regular first-team football at a higher level than the Lowland League. The Championship side, managed by Gary Naysmith, has already earned four points from two matches and progressed to the League Cup third round, with Hatton eager to contribute to their push for Play Off contention.

The winger’s potential was highlighted by his performances in the 2025/26 Lowland League, where he started 10 matches, scoring five goals and adding two assists. Last season, he started nine matches, netting three goals. Now, with Celtic’s first-team opportunities limited, Hatton aims to capitalize on his chance to showcase his pace and directness at a Championship level.

Naysmith’s decision to bring in Hatton reflects the manager’s focus on strengthening the squad ahead of the season. The winger’s arrival adds depth to Ayr’s attacking options, with the club also investing in infrastructure at Somerset Park. Hatton’s development could be pivotal for both his career and Ayr’s ambitions, as the club looks to build on their early Championship success.
