Early Career and Raith Rovers Debut

Alan MacKenzie's football journey began at Hutcheson Vale before joining Cowdenbeath in 1984. After scoring 45 goals for HPK in Finland, he returned to Scotland, netting 30 goals in 90 games for Cowdenbeath. His form attracted Raith Rovers, who paid £20,000 for his services in August 1991. His debut came on 17 August 1991, featuring in a 2-0 home win over Forfar.

Celtic Clash and Championship Success

MacKenzie's impact was immediate, as he scored in Raith Rovers' 4-1 Scottish League Cup victory over Motherwell. The match saw a stunning goal by Martin Nelson, chipping past Sieb Dijkstra, and Craig Brewster's late goals. His performance earned a spot in the Third Round clash against Celtic, where he headed the opener in a 1-1 draw. Raith Rovers' resilience kept Celtic at bay until late, with Bonnar's saves denying a late equalizer.

Later Career and Legacy

After a 1991-92 season with 25 appearances and 5 goals, MacKenzie left Raith Rovers in 1993 for Clyde, scoring the first goal at Broadwood. He later played for Cowdenbeath and Australian clubs before settling in Perth. His 60th birthday on 8 August 2026 marks a milestone for the 55-appearance, 9-goal legend.
